ABOUT:

Nestled in Philadelphia’s historic Germantown neighborhood, Rittenhouse Town was once a bustling 19th-century industrial center, fueled by a paper mill that churned out paper from flax crops, this self-contained community housed weavers, farmers, and all the necessary components to turn raw materials into finished products.

The nearest parking lot to the Walnut Street Dock is at 24th and Sansom Streets. Walk up the stairs at 24th and Walnut to get to the Walnut Street Bridge, walk along the bridge towards the river, once you're past all of the buildings, walk down the set of stairs that leads to the Banks. To access the trail from this lot without taking stairs, you can walk down 24th Street to Locust Street, turn right on Locust Street and walk one block to 25th and Locust to access the at-grade crossing into the Banks.

ABOUT:

Shofuso Japanese House and Garden is a traditional-style Japanese house and nationally-ranked garden in Philadelphia’s West Fairmount Park that reflects the history of Japanese culture in Philadelphia, from the 1876 Centennial Exposition to present day.

The garden offers a koi pond, teahouse garden, and courtyard garden as well as the Sakura Pavilion which hosts various events.  The Japanese House and Garden was conceived as part of an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Designed by Japanese mid-century modernist architect Junzo Yoshimura in 1953, the house was built in Nagoya, Japan using traditional materials and techniques. The house was part of “The House in the Museum Garden” series, which exhibited three different types of structures that influenced mid-century modern American architecture. Shofuso was the last structure in the exhibit and was moved to Philadelphia at its conclusion in 1954. Shofuso was reassembled at the current site in 1957-58, where there has been a continuous Japanese presence since the 1876 Centennial Exposition when the first Japanese garden in North America was installed behind a small Japanese bazaar.

ABOUT:

Gorgas Park is located in Roxborough at the corner of Ridge Avenue and Hermitage St. The park is named for the Gorgas Family who settled in the area toward the end of the 17th Century. In 1853, The Fairmount Park Commission bought the property, tore down the mills which were built and run by the family, but retained the homestead and the barn, which existed on the property.

The Friends of Gorgas Park started to care for the park in the spring of 1996, pruning many of the park's overhanging trees and removing damaged ones. Since then, the park is home to over 250 trees and award-winning gardens, and has been transformed in to the clean, safe park you see today.

ABOUT:

Stephen Girard Park is a vibrant community centerpiece of its South Philadelphia neighborhood. During its tenure as a farm spanning over 500 acres, Stephen Girard both supervised and manually labored over the fields of his fruits, flowers, trees, and livestock. Ownership of the farmlands was turned over to the City of Philadelphia after the accomplished businessman and philanthropist died in 1831. The park’s four-acre plot, which includes the old farmhouse and a statue of Stephen Girard by a Girard College alumnus, was established in 1953. As the industrial city developed residential homes around the park during the 20th century, the entire neighborhood has become known as Girard Estate and is now a historic district.

The Robert A. Borski, Jr. Park is part of the 11-mile greenway that Riverfront North Partnership helps to create, activate and steward with the City of Philadelphia.

The much-anticipated park will transform a former concrete factory into a 10-acre public park with river views, a multi-use lawn, and an upland meadow, restroom, and parking. It is the last of the eight planned parks on the North Delaware River Greenway. The park is owned and managed by Philadelphia Parks and Recreation and will be open Summer 2025!

Free street parking is available on Delaware Avenue and Orthodox Street.

Cliveden Park is located at 6415 Musgrave Street, Mt. Airy, PA 19119 in the East Mt.Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia. One of the primary features of Cliveden Park is a walking trail that runs throughout the entire hilly, grass-covered area of the park. The park also includes a bridge, a jungle gym and benches along the walking path. The park encompasses an entire city block. The Friends of Cliveden Park work to maintain the area.

ABOUT:

The Strawberry Mansion Bridge is a steel arch bridge across the Schuylkill River near the Historic Strawberry Mansion. Located at Ford Drive and Strawberry Mansion Drive, the bridge serves as a link between East and West Fairmount Park, used by pedestrians, vehicles, horses, and bicycles. Dating back to the late 1800s - early 1900s, the bridge was shut down in 1996 after being declared unsafe due to severe deterioration. The Streets Department undertook restoration of the bridge and reopened it in 1999.  The Strawberry Mansion Bridge Restoration was nominated for and won the 2002 Preservation Achievement Award, given by the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia.
